Use the in-game ballistic calculator

This is an operating guide for the machine inside IRON NEST, not a web solver. The calculator turns already-measured firing data and load choices into the elevation step.

Confirmed and pending

Before the consoleLocate the target on the tactical map and measure the final line from the Nest. The calculator does not locate targets.
Range and chargeCollected guides agree that target range and the selected powder charge affect the firing solution and elevation.
BearingThe calculator does not calculate bearing; bearing comes from the map. Collected guides differ on whether the console also asks you to enter that already-known bearing.
OutputThe machine supplies the elevation value used at the gun controls; turret rotation still follows the measured bearing.

Pending verification: public guides disagree about the exact set of fields shown on the calculator. Follow the current in-game panel and do not reuse a value after changing shell or charge.

Procedure

Recommended workflow

  1. Confirm the current Nest position and target position before touching the calculator.
  2. Measure the final range and bearing from the Nest to the target, not from a spotter or reference point.
  3. Select the intended ammunition and powder charge using the current mission information.
  4. Enter the range and other fields shown by the current console, then operate the calculator to obtain elevation.
  5. If ammunition or charge changes, calculate again before setting the gun.
  6. When a shot is wrong, recheck range transcription, charge, shell choice, and the separate turret bearing in that order.
